Mental Health Services are provided in partnership by Denbighshire County Council and the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCU) with BCU taking the lead responsibility.
Mental Health Services operate within the Mental Health Measures (2010) which requires initial referrals are via an individual’s GP surgery. Following consultation with your GP, they can decide whether a referral can be made to Parabl Counselling Services or whether a specialist assessment is required from Primary Mental Health Support Services (PMHSS).
If you are referred to PMHSS, then you can expect to be offered an appointment with 28 days. Primary Care services offer short term interventions of up to 6 sessions but can also signpost onto other services as appropriate or refer you onto groups to provide you with support to manage your difficulties.
Following assessment and/or intervention, if it is considered appropriate, you can be referred onto Secondary Services. These are services that are intended as provision for those people who are considered to have serious mental illness/disorder which longer term needs. There are two Community Mental Health Teams within Denbighshire:
- Hafod Community Mental Health Team in Rhyl
- Tim Dyffryn Clwyd in Denbigh
In line with the Social Services & Well-being Act mental health services will also support or promote the use of 3rd Sector and voluntary organisations for example Hafal (external website) and Mind (external website).
