Denbighshire County Council has been reviewing all the survey work done to date at school sites on the Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) issue since it first came to light in 2019/20. After reviewing the initial information in these reports, the need for further survey and inspection work within school sites was identified to be required at Ysgol Trefnant only.
On this basis, a RAAC surveyor attended the site at Ysgol Trefnant and after further inspection has confirmed that areas of the flat roof at the site are constructed using RAAC planks.
The surveyor has reported that, where viewed however, these planks do appear to be stable and in an acceptable condition.
Following end of school today (Thursday 14th September), in the interest of the safety of both staff and pupils, the authority has taken the careful decision to close the school building for the rest of this week (Friday 15th September) initially, whilst further investigations are carried out.
This is a precautionary measure and whilst the risk at this point is very low, this closure will allow the necessary time and space for further investigations to be carried out, and any immediate temporary measures to be put in place if required.
Further communication will be relayed to both staff and parents in due course.
