Nursery places

Children can attend nursery from the September following their 3rd birthday. Having a place in a nursery class at a particular school does not guarantee your child a place in a reception class at that school, and you will need to make a new application for reception class.

2025 nursery places

The closing date for nursery place applications for children born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022 was 17 February 2025.

If you've already applied, we'll let you know the outcome by 6 May 2025.

Welsh medium education

There's never been a better time to learn Welsh. The Welsh Government has a long-term vision to see the Welsh language thriving, with a million people able to speak Welsh by 2050.

Learning and using the Welsh language offers an educational, cultural and employment advantage.

Applying after the closing date

If you apply after the closing date, your application will be processed after all the on-time requests have been dealt with. This means your preferred school may be full by the time we process your application and, for this reason, we recommend that you name more than one preference when applying.

Late applications will be considered together, regardless of date received, against the oversubscription criteria detailed in the Denbighshire Schools guide.

If you make any amendments to an on-time application after the closing date, we will consider this as a new application which will replace anything previously received and will be recorded as late.

How to apply for a nursery place

The application process depends on when you apply.

For 2025 nursery places:

  • the application window was open from 23 September 2024 to 17 February 2025, with applications made through Education Self-Service accounts
  • late applications could be submitted from 17 February to 6 April 2025 through Education Self-Service accounts, these are processed after all on-time applications
  • you can apply for a nursery place now, but applications must be made through a separate online form (not an Education Self-Service account) and these will be processed after 6 May 2025

Apply for a nursery place

If you have applied for a place through an Education Self-Service account, you can log into your Education Self-Service account to view your application.

Changing an application after it has been submitted

After submitting a school admissions application, if you’d like to make a change there will be a short period where you can unsubmit your application through your Education Self-Service account and submit a new one. If the option to unsubmit an application is not displayed, you will need to complete an online form to let us know about a change to a school admissions application.

Applications received within the in-round period are classed as on-time. You can make a change to an application within this period and it will still be considered on-time.

However, if you make any changes to an on-time application after the closing date, we will consider this as a new application which will replace anything previously received and will be recorded as late.
