Summer Reading Challenge

Grow your imagination with the Story Garden Summer Reading Challenge!

Denbighshire Libraries are participating in the 'Story Garden' Summer Reading Challenge with free activities for families starting from 5 July 2024 until the end of September.

Summer Reading Challenge 2025

This summer Denbighshire Libraries are inviting children to step into the magical world of Story Garden, the theme for the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge. With stunning artwork by illustrator Dapo Adeola, children will uncover stories that celebrate the great outdoors and the power of imagination.

The Summer Reading Challenge is a fun, free way for children aged between 4 and 11 to stay motivated to read during the summer holidays.

One in four children hasn’t reached the expected level of reading by the age of 11 and many will struggle to keep up at secondary school, despite reading for pleasure being one of the single biggest indicators of a child’s development.

The Summer Reading Challenge provides an amazing way to boost confidence and self-esteem, and helps children to be better prepared to return to school in the autumn. Children can discover a range of books in their local library, in both English and Welsh, and by signing up to the challenge they will receive rewards each time they return their books.

This year the Challenge begins on Saturday 5 July 2025.
