Levelling Up Fund Round 2: Successful project bids

Denbighshire County Council is pleased to have secured £10.95m from Round 2 of the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund to support the development of 10 projects which are intended to protect Ruthin’s unique heritage, support rural communities and well-being. 

This funding scheme was open to local authorities to submit bids around the themes of addressing regeneration, heritage or transport. 

The proposals included for the Clwyd West constituency were supported by the constituency MP David Jones and local elected members.

Denbighshire County Council will be responsible for delivering 8 of the projects. Dyffryn Clwyd Mission will deliver the St Peter’s Church and Cloister’s project and Bryneglwys Cymdeithas Canolfan Ial Association will deliver the Bryneglwys School - Community Hub project.

Further development work is required and the Council will be consulting on projects later this year (expected spring 2024). All timescales are currently provisional and are subject to change.

Clwyd West Levelling Up Fund (LUF)

Denbighshire County Council will be delivering this project.

A scheme of public realm improvements to improve pedestrian and traffic flows around the square and to facilitate a more flexible central events space.

Project Team has been established.

Contract procurement expected Spring 2025.

Provisional construction period September 2025 to February 2026.

St Peter's Church & Cloisters Ruthin

Dyffryn Clwyd Mission will be delivering this project.

Improvements in order to better preserve these heritage buildings and ensure they are more accessible to all.

Provisional construction period November 2024 to November 2025.

Ruthin Clock Tower Ruthin

Denbighshire County Council will be delivering this project.

A programme of repair and renovation of the clock tower.

Construction commenced August 2024 with provisional completion November 2024.

Ruthin Gaol/46 Clwyd Street Ruthin

Denbighshire County Council will be delivering this project.

Project Team has been established.

A new entrance to the grade 2* Ruthin Gaol will be added via 46 Clwyd Street with improved facilities available for public use.

Provisional construction period December 2024 to March 2025.

Ruthin Nantclwyd-y-Dre Ruthin

Denbighshire County Council will be delivering this project.

Project Team has been established.

Restoration to the Grade 1 listed derelict West Wing.

Provisional construction period February 2025 to September 2025.

Ruthin Cae Ddol Ruthin

Denbighshire County Council will be delivering this project.

Project Team has been established.

A scheme of public realm improvements seeking to improve connectivity through the park and between the park and the town centre. Improvements to the car park and leisure offer within the park.

Consultation has been completed and a report summary is available on the project page.

Provisional construction period Winter 2025.

Moel Famau Facilities and Cycle Paths Moel Famau

Denbighshire County Council will be delivering this project.

Project Team has been established.

The project will see new and improved toilet and refreshment facilities. There will be extended and sustainably managed cycle routes.

Planning application has been submitted.

Provisional construction period May 2025 to December 2025.

Loggerheads Building and External Loggerheads

Denbighshire County Council will be delivering this project.

Project Team has been established.

Improvements to the existing building including internal improvements and an extended undercover area outside. Flood management measures.

Planning application has been submitted.

Provisional construction period April 2025 to September 2025.

Bryneglwys School - Community Hub Bryneglwys

Bryneglwys Cymdeithas Canolfan Ial Association will be delivering this project.

The conversion of a former school building into a new community centre.

Construction commenced July 2024 with provisional completion December 2024.

Gwyddelwern - Community Hub Gwyddelwern

Denbighshire County Council will be delivering this project.

Project Team has been established.

A new energy-efficient community hub will increase the range of village facilities.

Planning application has been submitted.

Provisional construction period July 2025 to April 2026.
